         APJ Abdul Kalam Biography

Doctor APJ Abdul Kalam is our President dot emerge as a 11th president of India on July 15 2002 elections.  Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam is most commonly known as missile man Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Kalam was born at Dhanush Kodi in Tamilnadu Rameshwaram district in 15-Oct - 1931 in a " poor" family but poverty never stop him from his desire to progress in life. there was a time when a A.P.J had even to sell newspapers in the streets to Cater to his needs. 

Education:- "Missile man" Abdul Kalam had his schooling  1.Rameshwaram panchayat Elementary School 2.Schwartz School rameshwaram.

He  did his  B.SC. from St. Joseph's College Tiruchirapalli. After that Kalam admission in Madras Institute of Technology and got education in Aeronautical Engineering from there. This was the turning point in his career he started his career as a scientist and was prompted for higher  and higher post.

As a scientist :-

A.P.J Abdul kalam joined DRDO ( defence Research Development organisation) in 1958 as an assistant scientist. Next he promoted ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organisation) in this organization he handled director of technical development and production post. There he was architect's of SLV-3 project. This project was magic step which brought him to limelight in National scenario. To become the senior scientist adviser to the India's defence Minister in 1990 to a position used to compaign  for the development of nuclear tests.This time also achieved success and completed mission of Agni missile in 1994. the people of given a new name known as a "Missile Man "

As a President  :- 

Abdul Kalam became the 11th President by beating his nearest rival Capt. (Dr.) Lakshmi Sahgal.He won the 15 July 2002  presidential election. D.r. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's involvement in the Nuclear Power in India earned him the title "Missile Man of India". Due to his contribution, the government of India awarded him the highest civilian award. r. A.P.J. He was president of India from 2002 to 2007.As president, Kalam promoted the advancement of the national  nuclear weapons  program. Kalam also devised a 20-year action plan to achieve economic growth through technological development in India. 

Personal life :-

    Kalam was the youngest of five siblings, the eldest of whom was a sister, Asim Zohra (d. 1997),

 followed by three elder brothers: Mohammed Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraikayar (born 4 November 1916),Mustafa Kalam (d. 1999) and Kasim Mohammed (d. 1995).He was extremely close to his elder siblings and their extended families throughout his life, and would regularly send small sums of money to his older relations, himself remaining a lifelong bachelor.

         

Achievements :-He was honoured with several prestigious awards including India's highest civilian honour "Bharat Ratna" in 1997.

o    In 1981, Dr. Kalam received Padma Bhushan from the Government of India.

o    In 1990, Dr. Kalam received Padma Vibhushan from the Government of India.

o In 1994 and 1995, Distinguished Fellow and Honorary Fellow by Institute of    Directors India and National Academy of Medical Sciences.

o  In 1997, he had received Bharat Ratna from Government of India and Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration from the Indian National Congress.

o    In 1998, Veer Savarkar Award from Government of India.

o    In 2000, Ramanujan Award from Alwars Research Centre, Chennai.

o    In 2007, he was honoured with the King Charles II Medal by the Royal Society, U.K., and Doctorate of Science from the University of Wolverhampton, UK.

His death 

On 27 July 2015, Kalam travelled to  Shilling to deliver a lecture on "Creating a Livable Planet Earth" at the . Indian Institute of Management Shillong While climbing a flight of stairs, he experienced some discomfort, but was able to enter the auditorium after a brief rest. At around 6:35 p.m. IST. only five minutes into his lecture, he collapsed. He was rushed to the nearby Bethany Hospital in a critical condition; upon arrival, he lacked a pulse or any other signs of life. Despite being placed in the Intensive care unit (ICU) , Kalam was confirmed dead of a sudden Cardiac arrest at 7:45 p.m. IST  His last words, to his aide Srijan Pal Singh were reportedly: "Funny guy! Are you doing well?”
